Professional Experience
Related Designs, Mainz - Germany 2007 – February 2009
Concept Artist (Full-Time)
upcoming Ubisoft game: ANNO 1404 (PC-Game)
- As the sole in-house concept artist at Related Designs (Makers of 2006’s best seller game ANNO 1701), I got to produce large amounts of drawings and sketches. I also functioned as the go-to guy for the art director whenever he wanted to try out some ideas or needed changes made to designs coming in from out-sourced free-lance artists. At this point I have acquired quite a bit of knowledge about medieval designs, especially buildings and of course got to try out different techniques on the job, one of several benefits of being a full-time concept artist.
Blind & Brand New School, Los Angeles , CA 2005 – 2006
2D Artist (Freelance)
Scion (Commercial)
- One of my tasks was to create 2D style boards which contributed to the successful pitch for a large budget Scion car commercial, an important job for blind to land
3D Artist (Freelance)
Various freelance work for blind (www.blind.com) and Brand New School (www.brandnewschool.com)
- Modeled, textured, lighted and animated shots for commercials ranging from Ultimate Fighting promos to TV show announcements (The Shield) to dog food commercials (Caesar’s).
Independent Animated Short Film2004
- Finished my award-winning short film The Trickster’s Toys (see ACCOMPLISHMENTS) and went on festival tour. On this extremely labor-intensive and exhausting project I had the desire to make the 6 minute animated short film all by myself, with the exception of the music. Thus I experienced first hand how wonderfully easy beautiful ideas can come and how much time and effort it can take to translate these imagined images into rich, detailed and convincingly moving rendered images. After three years of hard work though, I finally completed it!
Blind, Los Angles, CA 2003
3D Artist (Freelance)
Jet: Are you gonna be my girl? (Music Video)
- Freelance 3D work at blind, including work on the award-winning Jet video for “Are you gonna be my girl”
- where I animated electric cables in 3D (using splines as bones)
Mini Cooper company promo (Promo for Blind)
- This was a promotional project planned and supervised by Chris Do, President and Chief Creative Officer at Blind. I was part of a team of three (including Do) who created this 30 second stylized 3D clip of a Mini Cooper driving through a parking structure.
- Helped set up shots, refine the car model (modeling and texturing), set up lighting conditions and did some of the animation. I like to think this promo helped Blind land their first real car commercial a few years later.
